    Let \(X\) be a compact set, and let \(C(X)\) be the continuous functions defined on \(X\). Let \(P\) and \(Q\) be finite dimensional subspaces of \(C(X)\). Let \( 0< l(x) \leq u(x)\) be in \(C(X)\). Finally let \(R\) be functions of the form \({p\over q}\) where \(p \in P\), \(q\in Q\), and \(l(x) \leq q(x) \leq u(x)\). There is a best approximation to each \(f\in C(X)\) from \(R\), but in general the best approximation is not unique. This work presents sufficient conditions that a best approximation is strongly unique. They also present examples of unique best approximations that are not strongly unique. The conditions for sufficiency assume that the denominator function \(q(x)\) satisfies \(l(x) < q(x) < u(x)\).
