For the approximation of a bivariate matrix power series, \textit{N. K. Bose} and \textit{S. Basu} [IEEE Trans. Autom. Control AC-25, 509-514 (1980; Zbl 0433.93017)] used a rational matrix-valued approximant with matrix-valued numerator and denominator. In this paper, the author introduces a bivariate matrix-valued rational interpolant (BGIRI) in continued fraction form with scalar denominator [cf. \textit{W. Siemaszko}, J. Comput. Appl. Math. 9, 137-153 (1983; Zbl 0515.41015)] and proves uniqueness of BGIRI in some sense.
