The author obtains some sufficient conditions for the product of two Toeplitz operators on the Hardy space of the unit sphere to be a compact perturbation of a Toeplitz operator (he supposes that the condition obtained in the paper is also necessary). This result allows to prove a criteria for the compactness of Hankel operators with symbol from BMO.
