The paper deals with regular solutions (i.e. solutions existing for all \(t\geq t_0\)) of the differential equation \[ [r(t)x']'+ p(t)x'+ Q(t, x)= P(t,x,x')\tag{1} \] considered on an interval \([t_0,\infty)\). Using a technique similar to that exploited by \textit{Ch. G. Philos} [Arch. Math. 53, No. 5, 482-492 (1989; Zbl 0661.34030)], \textit{H. J. Li} [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 194, No. 1, 217-234 (1995; Zbl 0836.34033)], and \textit{S. R. Grace} [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 171, No. 1, 220-241 (1992; Zbl 0767.34017)] for some special cases of equation (1), the author presents several sufficient conditions for any regular solution of (1) to be oscillatory, and sufficient conditions for every solution \(x(t)\) of the forced perturbed nonlinear equation \[ [r(t)x']'+ p(t)x'+ Q(t,x)= P(t,x,x')+ e(t) \] to have the property \(\liminf_{t\to\infty} | x(t)|= 0\). The results of the paper extend and unify some earlier results of the above-mentioned authors and others.
