This is a study of spaces having the weak topology with respect to a closed cover \(\mathcal C\) of metric spaces. This means that the union \(Y\) of any subcollection \(\mathcal D\) of \(\mathcal C\) is closed in \(X\) and each subset \(Z\) of \(Y\) is closed in \(Y\) whenever \(Z\cap D\) is closed in \(D\) for each \(D\) in \(\mathcal D\). Characterizations of certain topological properties on \(X\) are given in terms of covering properties of \(\mathcal C\). Also the existence of certain kinds of \(k\)-networks on \(X\) relate to covering properties of \(\mathcal C\). For example, \(X\) has a point-countable cs\(^{*}\)-network if and only if \(\mathcal C\) is point-countable. Several examples and open questions are given at the end.
