Let \(W\) be a Coxeter group. \textit{L. Solomon} [J. Algebra 41, 255-268 (1976; Zbl 0355.20007)] introduced the so-called descent algebra, which is a subalgebra of \(\mathbb{Q}[W]\). A revival of interest in this area began in the 1980s when applications were found for an interpretation of the rule for multiplying together basis elements of the descent algebra of the symmetric group. In this paper, in terms of matrices, the author gives a new proof of Solomon's rule for multiplication in the descent algebra of the Coxeter groups of type \(A\).
