The author discusses the matrix inequalities \(||| A^*XB||| \leq {1\over 2} |||AA^*X+ XBB^*|||\) and \(||| AXB|||\leq |||A^pX|||^{1/p} |||XB^q|||^{1/q}\) (with \(A,B\geq 1\), \(1< p<\infty\), \(q= p/(p-1)\)), as well as related ones, where \(|||*|||\) is a given unitarily invariant norm. For these known inequalities, the author proposes a simple direct proof based on the Poisson integral formula. A ``weak matrix Young inequality'' is also discussed.
