The article under review traces the history of some theorems about the boundary behaviour of harmonic functions and harmonic measure for Lipschitz domains. It explains how certain approaches to such theorems gave rise to questions about elliptic measure (an analogue of harmonic measure) for a class of elliptic partial differential equations on Lipschitz domains. The article culminates with a discussion of answers to some of these questions, given in two as yet unpublished papers [\textit{C. Kenig} and \textit{J. Pipher}, ``The Dirichlet problem for elliptic equations with drift terms'' (in preparation); \textit{C. Kenig, H. Koch, J. Pipher} and \textit{T. Toro}, ``A new approach to absolute continuity of elliptic measure with applications to nonsymmetric equations'' (preprint)].
