The author tries to obtain a compromise between the Sternberg linearization theorem and the classical invariant manifold theory. As a result the author proves some invariant manifold theorems for spectral subspaces satisfying some mild nonresonance conditions that persist for open sets of problems. Moreover, he provides examples that show that if these nonresonance conditions are violated, the conclusions are false.
