The stability of discrete-time bilinear filters (DTBLF) is investigated. The canonical form under consideration is the following: \[ y(n)= \sum^N_{i=0} a_iu(n-i)+ \sum^N_{j=1} b_jy(n-j)+\sum^N_{j=1} \sum^N_{i=1} c_{i ,j} u(n-i)y(n-j) \] where \(u\) is the input, \(y\) is the output and the initial conditions are not subject to any constraints. The results are contained in four theorems. Under reasonable conditions, necessary conditions ensuring: a) \(u\in l_p\Rightarrow y\in l_p\), \(p\geq 1\); b) \(u(n)\to 0\Rightarrow y(n)\to 0\), \(n\to\infty\); c) \(u_1(n)-u_2(n)\to 0\Rightarrow y_1(n)-y_2(n)\to 0\), \(n\to\infty\); d) asymptotic periodic inputs produce asymptotic periodic outputs are given. The proofs are very clearly presented. The paper represents an excellent contribution to the theory of the stability of DTBLF.
