Let \(N[a,b]=\{a,a+1,\ldots,b\}\) be the discrete interval, where \(a\) and \(b\) are integers. The symbol \(\Delta^i\) is used to denote the \(i\)-th forward difference operator with stepsize 1. Let \(u(k)\) be a given function on \(N[a,b+n-1]\) (with \(n\geq 2,\) \(b-a\geq n-1\)), and let \(P_{n-1}(k)\) be the Abel-Gontscharoff interpolating polynomial of \(u(k),\) i.e. \(P_{n-1}(k)\) is the polynomial of degree \((n-1)\) satisfying the following conditions \[ \Delta^iP_{n-1}(k_{i+1})=\Delta^iu(k_{i+1})=A_i, \qquad 0\leq i\leq n-1, \] where \(k_l, 1\leq l\leq n,\) are integers such that \(a\leq k_1\leq k_2\leq \ldots\leq k_n\leq b\) \((k_n>k_1).\) In the error inequalities \[ \max_{k\in N[a,b+n-1-i]}| \Delta^il(k)| \leq C_i\max_{l\in N[a,b-1]} | \Delta^nu(l)| , \qquad 0\leq i\leq n-1, \] the problem of finding the best possible constants is considered. The obtained estimates are used to provide tests for the right disfocality as well as disconjugacy for higher order difference equations.
