Spectral properties of two-slanted matrices \(A\) and \(\mathbf A\) with finite and infinite sets, respectively, of real or complex numbers as matrix elements are considered. Some relations for the eigenvalues of the matrices \(A\) and \(\mathbf A\) are derived for the case of the zeros of the symbols \(P(z)\) which completely describe the matrices. These results are applied to the solutions \(\varphi\) of two-scale difference equations. The nonexistence of proper root vectors of \(A\) to the eigenvalue 1 if the two-scale difference equations possess a nontrivial, continuous solution is discussed. New methods for the determination of the vector \((\varphi(0),\dots,\varphi(n))^{T}\) are given.
