The author derives time-asymptotic decay rates in \(L^2\) for large disturbances to classes of solutions of the Cauchy problem for uniformly parabolic equations, provided that the disturbances belong to appropriate \(L^2\) spaces at initial time. Examples considered include the scalar nonlinear advection-diffusion equation \[ u_t+f(u)_x=(b(u)u_x)_x \] and the parabolic system \[ {\mathbf u}_t+({\mathbf u}\varphi(|{\mathbf u}|))_x=(B({\mathbf u}){\mathbf u}_x)_x \] where \({\mathbf u}(x,t)\in {\mathbb R}^m,\) \(\varphi\) is a given scalar function and \(B({\mathbf u})\) is a uniformly positive-definite diagonal matrix.
