Expressions for the Moore-Penrose inverse of an \(m\times n\) block matrix \(M\) which satisfies rank additivity conditions are developed. All matrices are over the complex number field. First the expressions for a \(2\times 2\) block matrix are derived. Then the results are extended to a general block matrix. A set of formulas is written for representing the Moore-Penrose inverses of matrix sums. The duality between the Moore-Penrose inverses of block matrices is illustrated. Applications are given.
