    Verf. behandelt den Übergang von geomtrischen Darstellungen zu algebraischen Formulierungen der Geometrie anhand der Editionen der \textit{Elemente} von Euklid. Dessen rein geometrisch geführten Beweise wurden in algebraische Form übergeführt. Dies ist ersichtlich in den ersten englischen Ausgaben der \textit{Elemente}. Insbesondere tritt die Arithmetisierung in der Lehre der Proportionen auf, besonders deutlich in den Editionen von Claude Dechales, William Whiston und John Playfair.
