Several results about conjugacy in the group of automorphisms of a tree and of a rooted tree are announced; no proofs are given. Given an automorphism \(u\) of a tree \(T\), the orbital type of \(u\) is the labelled quotient graph \(T/\langle u \rangle\) where each edge and vertex is labelled with its cardinality as orbit. Then two elements of \(\Aut(T)\) are conjugate iff either both are rotations or reflections with orbital types that are isomorphic (as labelled graphs) or if both are translations whose oriented translation axes lie in the same \(\Aut(T)\)-orbit and whose translation lengths are equal. An analogous result is stated for the subgroup \(\Aut^+(T)\) consisting of the rotations and the translations with even translation length.
