The authors give general sufficient conditions for the uniform approximation of the transfer functions of infinite dimensional dynamical system by interpolants in question. A proper selection of the prescribed poles of the approximants ensures that the approximants of a stable system are again stable. Indications are given as how to select the poles and the interpolation points. The advantages of this approximation when compared with Padé approximation are discussed. Numerical examples illustrate the method.
