An industrial example from the automobile industry is examined using the methodology of fitting C-linear curves to circular-linear data to determine the effect of factors from a factorial experiment. The goal of the analysis is to gain understanding about the inter-relationship between a directional component, the angle of imbalance from a brake rotor, and a corresponding linear measurement, the magnitude of correction needed to balance the part at that location on the rotor. A variety of inputs create eight different groups, each with a potentially different relationship between the angular and linear components. The two strategies considered are simplifying the relationship across the existing groups, and reducing the number of groups while preserving the general form of the relationship.
