Let \(f\) and \(g\) be meromorphic functions. We say that \(f\) and \(g\) share a value \(a\) IM (ignoring multiplicity) provided that \(f\) and \(g\) have the same \(a\)-points, and also they share the value \(a\) CM, if \(f\) and \(g\) have the same \(a\)-points with the same multiplicity. Let \(k\) be a positive integer. We denote by \(\overline E_k(a,f)\) the set of \(a\)-points of \(f\) with multiplicity at most \(k\) (ignoring multiplicity). \textit{K. Tohge} [Kodai Math. J. 11, 249-279 (1988; Zbl 0663.30024)] considered the unity problem on \(f\) and \(g\) under the condition (A) \(f\) and \(g\) share values \(0,1,\infty\) CM, and (B) \(f'\) and \(g'\) share 0 CM. Tohge proved that if (A) and (B) hold, \(f\) and \(g\) satisfy one of the following relations. (i) \(f=g\), (ii) \(fg=1\), (iii) \((f-1)(g-1)=1\), (iv) \(f+g=1\), (v) \(f=cg\), (vi) \(f-1=c(g-1)\), (vii) \(((c-1)f+1)((c-1)g-c)=-c\), where \(c(\neq 0,1)\) is a constant. The author gave an improvement of Tohge's theorem, namely the condition (A) and (B) can be weakened. It is shown that if \(\text{(A}')\) \(f\) and \(g\) share values \(0,\infty\) CM and \(\overline E_k\) \((1,f)= \overline E_k(1,g)\) for a positive integer \(k\) (or \(\infty\) which means that \(f\) and \(g\) share 1 IM), and \(\text{(B}')\) \(f'\) and \(q'\) share 0 IM, then one of the relations (i)--(vii) above must be satisfied.
