The paper presents a comparative analysis between the methods of averaging and normal forms. At first, the underlying theories of the normal forms and averaging methods are outlined. Then, similarities and differences of these methods are discussed. It is illustrated by two examples that both methods lead to identical results, including the normal form as well as the associated coefficients. The basic results are given in 4 lemmas, 3 theorems and 3 conclusions and their significances are shown by two examples.
