Using the ideas of linguistic truth values and of truth qualification of elementary sentences, as introduced by \textit{L. A. Zadeh} [Int. J. Man-Machine Stud. 10, 395-460 (1978; Zbl 0406.68063)], the author develops a framework to discuss the liar sentence and similar self-referential sentences. The main point is that in this approach such liar-like sentences become equations over the real unit interval which involve suitable possibility distributions. Despite the intuition that these equations should be treated as functional equations, the author treats them as point equations. Accordingly there is no discussion of the philosophical significance of their solutions.
