The authors derive the spin matrices for a linearized classical gravitational field, which satisfy the angular momentum commutation relations for a particle having spin angular momentum two, i.e. a graviton. Their procedure is similar to that followed by \textit{J. Humblet} [Physica, The Hague 10, 585-603 (1943; Zbl 0028.28002)] for the electromagnetic field. They conclude their discussion by commenting that their analogous manner of handling the electromagnetic and gravitational fields was anticipated in the Kaluza-Klein five-dimensional unified field theory.
