The authors consider the singularly perturbed boundary value problem \[ Lu:=\varepsilon u^n + b(x)u'=f(x), \quad 0<x<1,\;u(0)=u(1)=0, \] where \(\varepsilon >0\) is a small parameter, \(b(x)\geq 2\beta >0\) for all \(0\leq x\leq 1\) and \(f\) and \(b\) are sufficiently smooth functions. A defect correction method based on finite difference schemes on a Shishkin mesh is proposed. The almost second-order convergence of the scheme with respect to Chebyshev norm, uniformly in \(\varepsilon\), is proved. The results of numerical experiments for the case \(b(x)=1, f(x)=e^{-x}\) is given.
