The authors introduce a thermodynamically consistent form of phase field model in one space dimension. They study a dual front behaviour, observed in a reaction-diffusion system, focussing on the appearance of an intermediate state. The discussion is made with respect to \(D\), a non-dimensional ratio of thermal diffusivity of phase diffusivity. They found numerically that the leading front is always faster than the oscillating front. This property is proved rigorously in the asymptotic case of small \(D\).
