It is shown that a sensitivity-bond graph which is of the same structure as the system bond graph, provides a simple and effective method of generating sensitivity functions, which are of use in optimization in general and, in particular, for model-based predictive control. One application of such an optimization in the context of partially known system parameters and state estimation is given and illustrated using a highly nonlinear system.
