The authors extend the results on the convergence of the Neumann-type series to {1, 2}-inverses proved by \textit{K. Tanabe} [Linear Algebra Appl. 10, 163-175 (1975; Zbl 0327.15012)] by giving conditions characterizing the convergence to Moore-Penrose, and Drazin inverses. Using the hyperpower method an iterative scheme for obtaining these inverses is derived, and some involutory matrices are introduced and characterized.
