\textit{A. Ballester-Bolinches} and \textit{Xiuyun Guo} [J. Algebra 228, No. 2, 491-496 (2000; Zbl 0961.20016)], proved the following criterion for \(2\)-nilpotence: Theorem. Let \(P\) be a Sylow \(2\)-subgroup of a finite group \(G\). Suppose that \(\Omega_1(P\cap G')\) is contained in \(Z(P)\). If \(P\) is quaternion-free and \(N_G(P)\) is \(2\)-nilpotent, then \(G\) is \(2\)-nilpotent. In this paper, the author shows with an example that the quaternion-free hypothesis is necessary. This was an open question in the paper cited.
