The authors proposed and study new types of face-gear drives in transmissions, particularly in helicopter transmissions. The new geometry differs from the existing by application of asymmetric profiles and double-crowned pinion of the drive. This article covers computerized design, simulations of meshing and contact, and stress analysis by finite element method. The authors also develop computer programs for the design of conventional and new asymmetric face-gear drives. The research is illustrated with numerical examples.
