Based on a paper by \textit{P. Habets} and \textit{F. Zanolin} [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 181, No. 3, 684-700 (1994; Zbl 0801.34029)], the author uses the method of upper and lower solutions to prove an existence result on the singular two-point boundary value problem \[ u''=-g(t,u),\quad t\in (0,1); \qquad u(0)=u(1)=0, \] where \(g:(0,1)\times (0, \infty)\to \mathbb{R}\) is continuous and may be superlinear.
