The paper proposes a statistically optimal null filter for the solution to the problem of enhancement/suppression of a short-duration signal embedded in noise. It is based on the combination of the matched filtering procedure for the maximization of the signal-to-noise ratio and the least-square optimization criterion. Simulation examples illustrate the application of the proposed filter.
