As introduced by Nomizu and Pinkall an immersion \(\Phi\) of a manifold \(M^n\) with torsion free affine connection \(\nabla\) into the standard affine space \({\mathbb{R}}^{n+p}\) with its standard connection \(D\) is called affine if there exists a \(p\)-dimensional transversal bundle \(\sigma\) such that for all vector fields \(X,Y\) tangent to \(M^n\) the bilinear form \[ h(X,Y): =D_X\Phi_*(Y)-\Phi_* (\nabla_XY) \] takes its values in \(\sigma\). Affine immersions with \(\nabla h=0\) are called parallel immersions. The author proves the following classification result: Let \(\Phi:M^n\to {\mathbb{R}}^{n+{n(n+1) \over 2}}\) be a parallel and linearly full affine immersion. Then there is \(M^n=S^r_s(2) \times {\mathbb{R}}^{n-r}\) with the \(r\)-dimensional semi-Riemannian sphere \(S^r_s(2)\) of index \(s\) and radius \(2\) \((0\leq s\leq r\leq n)\). Moreover, if \(x\in S^r_s(2)\), \(y\in {\mathbb{R}}^{n-r}\) we have \[ \Phi(x,y)= \left(x^txI_{s,r+1-s}- {4\over r+1} I_{0, r+1}, x^ty,\frac 12 y^ty\right). \] Note that for \(r=n\) and \(s=0\), \(\Phi\) is the standard Veronese immersion.
