By means of an iteration process of Ishikawa type, the author studies the existence of solutions to nonlinear integral equations of Hammerstein type. The results presented in this paper extend those obtained by \textit{C. E. Chidume} and \textit{M. O. Osilike} [J. Nig. Math. Soc. 11, 9-18 (1993)].
