Let \(E_1, E_2\) be two Banach spaces, \(D\) an open convex subset of \(E_1\) and \(f:D\to E_2\) a nonlinear Fréchet differentiable operator. A semilocal convergence theorem of Mysovskii type corresponding to Newton's method for solving the equation \(f(x)=0\) is the main result of the paper. A basic assumption is that of Hölder continuity of the derivative \[ \|f'(x)-f'(y)\|\leq K{\|x-y\|}^p, 0<p\leq 1, \] which is considered instead of the condition \[ \|f''(x)\|\leq K, \] involved in \textit{I. P. Mysovskich}'s original result [Dokl. Akad. Nauk SSSR, n. Ser. 70, 565-568 (1950; Zbl 0037.21004)]. Finally, as numerical example, a known two point boundary value problem is solved, in order to empirically compare the present results to those existing in literature.
