The author constructs the scattering operator for the nonlinear Klein-Gordon equation with a potential: \[ \partial^2_tu-\Delta_x u+u+V_0(x)u+ F(x,u)=0,\;t\in\mathbb{R},\;x\in\mathbb{R}^n,\;n\geq 2, \] \[ u|_{t=0}=f_1,\;\partial_tu|_{t=0}=f_2. \] In the case where \(F(x,u)=\sum_{1\leq j<\infty} V_j(x)| u|^{2(j_0+j)}\) he proves that the small-amplitude limit of the scattering operator determines uniquely all the \(V_j\), \(j=0,1,\dots\). The proof gives, as well, a method for the reconstruction of the \(V_j\).
