Let \(A\) be a fixed \(n\times n\)-matrix and let \(V_A\) denote the set of germs at the origin of \(C^\infty\)-smooth vector fields on \(\mathbb{R}^n\) of the form \(\dot x= Ax+\cdots\) where the dots denote nonlinear terms. The purpose of this paper is to find the index of finite determinacy of a generic vector field \(X\in V_A\) and the number of moduli distinguishing generic vector fields of \(V_A\) that are not \(C^\infty\)-equivalent. So far, a complete answer to this program has been given only for \(n=1\) and partially for \(n=2\). Using the method of jets and drawing on some results due to G. Belitzki and to F. Ichikawa, the author exhibits the complete solution to this problem for \(n= 3\).
