A result of \textit{E. Bayer-Fluckiger} and \textit{H. W. Lenstra jun.} [Am. J. Math. 112, 359-373 (1990; Zbl 0729.12006)] establishes that if \(k\) is a field of characteristic different from 2, \(U\) is the norm-one group of a finite-dimensional \(k\)-algebra with involution, and \(K\) is an odd degree field extension of \(k\), then the canonical map \(H^1(k,U)\to H^1(K,U)\) is injective. The author generalizes this result to the case of inverse limits of finite-dimensional \(k\)-algebras with involution. Then, using this generalization, the author proves a result about self-dual normal bases for infinite Galois field extensions which extends a result due to \textit{E. Bayer-Fluckiger} [Indag. Math. 51, 379-383 (1989; Zbl 0709.12004)] as well as another one due to \textit{H. W. Lenstra jun.} [Indag. Math. 47, 221-228 (1985; Zbl 0569.12013)].
