The author proves that an ovoid \(\Omega\) of PG\((3,q)\) which is stabilized by a non-trivial central collineation \(\Gamma\) of PG\((3,q)\) is actually an elliptic quadric. The proof is achieved by showing that the intersection of \(\Omega\) with the axis of \(\Gamma\) is a conic, and then the assertion follows from a recent result by the author [J. Lond. Math. Soc., II. Ser. 62, 569-582 (2000; Zbl 1038.51008)]. The result implies that an inversive plane of even order which admits an automorphism whose set of fixed points is precisely a circle must be Miquelian.
