The authors show that the proof of a theorem published in [\textit{B. B. Wells jun.}, Pac. J. Math. 65, 253--259 (1976; Zbl 0338.43012)] by the present reviewer contains a gap. The purported theorem states that every continuous complex-valued function \(f\) on the compact ring \(\mathbb Z_p\) of integers of a \(p\)-series field has a rearrangement \(g\) that has absolutely convergent Fourier series. The authors provide a correct proof of the above theorem for the case of real-valued functions. The case of complex-valued functions is apparently still open. Their proof relies on an earlier result of P. Walker that a complex-valued function on a compact metrizable totally disconnected Abelian group that belongs to \(\text{Lip} (\alpha)\) for \(\alpha> 1/2\) has absolutely convergent Fourier series.
