The paper surveys a method to obtain strong asymptotics for the polynomials \(p\), \(q\), and \(r\) of degree \(n\) in the type-I Hermite-Padé approximant satisfying \(p(z)e^{-z}+q(z)+r(z)e^z=O(z^{3n+2})\), \(z\to0\). A method of \textit{P. Deift} and \textit{X. Zhou} [Ann. Math. (2) 137, No. 2, 295--368 (1993; Zbl 0771.35042)] is used. For the relation with the current problem, see \textit{W. Van Assche}, \textit{J. S. Geronimo} and \textit{A. B. J. Kuijlaars} [NATO Sci. Ser. II, Math. Phys. Chem. 30, 23--59 (2001; Zbl 0997.42012)]. The result is the formulation of two theorems that were given in \textit{H. Stahl} [ETNA, Electron. Trans. Numer. Anal. 14, 195--222 (2002; Zbl 1030.41013)].
