The author introduces a class of algebras (and their super analogues) obtained from the canonical decomposition of the symmetric and of the wedge algebras. He describes then the homogeneous structure of these algebras and superalgebras. Furthermore he studies the rate of growth of these algebras and shows that such an algebra is PI if and only if it has polynomial growth. Interesting applications are given concerning the polynomial identities of the tensor square of the Grassmann algebra.
