Adapted from the authors' abstract: ``The Moore-Penrose metric generalized inverse \(T^+\) of a linear operator \(T\) between Banach spaces is systematically investigated. Unlike the case of Hilbert space, even if \(T\) is a linear operator on a Banach space, \(T^+\) may be nonhomogeneous and nonlinear. The authors use techniques from the geometry of Banach spaces in order to identify conditions for (among others) existence, linearity, continuity of \(T^+\).'' If \(T:X\to Y\) is a linear operator between Banach spaces \(X\) and \(Y\) and if both spaces are strictly convex, the authors prove necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of \(T^+\) and show that if it exists then it is unique. All other results also require strict convexity and sometimes reflexivity of both spaces \(X\) and \(Y\), so the paper does not actually investigate the general case.
