The paper shows how a reduced sh-Lie structure can be obtained from the ideas of symmetry reduction. Let us recall that a Poisson bracket on the space of local functionals induces a sh-Lie structure, that is a strongly homotopy Lie structure. The reduced sh-Lie structures have already been studied for the case when a Lie group acts on the fibers of a vector bundle such that the induced action on the base manifold is the identity map. In this paper, the author investigates the case where the action is transversal to the fiber. A different kind of reduction is thus studied. After recalling the relevant facts about sh-Lie structures, the existence of a sh-Lie structure from symmetry reduction is proved. Finally, reduction of functionals is briefly discussed.
