Affine properties and injectivity of quasi-isometries (Q1885655): Difference between revisions

The main result is an extension to finite-dimensional Banach spaces of a theorem of John on the approximation of quasi-isometries on convex domains in Euclidean space by affine near isometries. This answers a question of \textit{Y. Benyamini} and \textit{J. Lindenstrauss} [``Geometric Nonlinear Functional Analysis, Vol.~1`` (American Mathematical Society, Providence/RI) (2000; Zbl 0946.46002)]. The proof uses previous results of the author [Aequationes Math. 66, No.1-2, 37-77 (2003; Zbl 1082.39027)] on approximate solutions of the Jensen functional equation. The paper also improves results of \textit{J. Gevirtz} [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 274, 307--318 (1982; Zbl 0497.46011)] on the injectivity of quasi-isometries.
