The authors construct metric (or uniform or topological) spaces \(X\) and \(Y\) such that every non-expanding (or uniformly continuous or continuous) map \(Y \times Y \rightarrow Y\) depends only on one of its variables, the space \(X\) fails to have this property and the respective monoids of all non-expanding (or uniformly continuous or continuous) selfmaps of \(X\) and \(Y\) are the same.
