The authors propose a controller for the reduction of so-called force ripple in an iron core magnet linear motor. The controller is a combination of a feedforward component, a PID controller and an adaptive feedforward compensator. The latter is designed in order to generate a dither signal used for the suppression of the undesired force ripple. A Lyapunov-function-based stability analysis for the closed-loop system is given. Simulation as well as experimental results illustrate the performance of the method.
