For every left module \(M\) over the convolution dual algebra \(C^*\) of a coalgebra \(C\) over a commutative field \(k\), let \(\text{Rat}(M)\) denote its rational part, namely, the greatest \(C^*\)-submodule of \(M\) that has a structure of right \(C\)-comodule in a canonical way. Theorem 3.4 establishes that if \(\text{Rat}(M)\) is a direct summand, as a \(C^*\)-submodule, of \(M\) for every left \(C^*\)-module \(M\), then \(C\) is a finite-dimensional vector space over \(k\). One of the auxiliary results proven in the paper asserts that the coalgebra \(C\) is injective as a left module over \(C^*\) if and only if it is Artinian as a left \(C\)-comodule (Proposition 3.2).
