Let \(G\) be a group and \({\mathcal B}\) a complex Banach space. The author considers Jensen's functional equation \[ J(xy)+J(xy^{-1})=2J(x),\quad x,y\in G \] with an unknown function \(J:G\to {\mathcal B}\). The stability of the considered equation in the case where \(G\) is an amenable locally compact group is proved. Namely, it is shown that for every continuous function \(f:G\to {\mathcal B}\) such that \[ \| f(xy)+f(xy^{-1})-2f(x)\| \leq\delta,\quad x,y\in G \] for some \(\delta\geq 0\), there exists a solution \(J\) of Jensen's equation such that \[ \| f(x)-J(x)\| \leq\delta,\quad x\in G. \] The above is no longer true for an arbitrary group. An example is given for \(G\) being a free group on two generators. The ideas and some methods refer to \textit{G. L. Forti} [Abh. Math. Sem. Univ. Hamburg 57, 215--226 (1987; Zbl 0619.39012)].
