A positive (that is, with positive entries) \(n\times n\) matrix \(A=[a_{ij}]\) is called symmetrically reciprocal if \(a_{ii}=1\) for all \(i=1,\ldots,n\) and \(a_{ij}=1/a_{ji}\) for all \(i,j=1,\ldots,n\). An approach to optimally approximating symmetrically reciprocal matrices by transitive matrices, in terms of the minimum cycle problem, is described.
