The authors refine the definition of motivic Serre invariants using motivic integration. They study the behaviour of these invariants under ramification and establish a trace formula given the topological Euler characteristic in terms of the trace of some morphism. As a consequence they get the trace formulas of \textit{J. Denef} and \textit{F. Loeser} [Topology 41, No. 5, 1031--1040 (2002; Zbl 1054.14003)] and \textit{N. A'Campo} [Comment. Math. Helv. 50, 233--248 (1975; Zbl 0333.14008)]. The results announced in this note will be part of a more complete paper in preparation.
