A group is said to be indecomposable if it is not the direct product of proper subgroups. The authors prove that if a Sylow 2-subgroup of a finite simple group is the direct product of non-trivial indecomposable 2-groups then every direct factor is also a Sylow 2-subgroup of some finite simple group. To prove this, the authors search for finite simple groups with decomposable Sylow 2-subgroups using the Classification of finite simple groups.
